WYCOMBE Squash Club's head squash coach Wendy Maitland-Jones returned to competitive squash after an eight-year absence to win the over-35 British Open.
Maitland-Jones, the former world number 25 and Scottish champion, beat Katie Lawrence 9-0, 9-2 and 9-7 in the final.
She said: “I was delighted with the win, it has been so long since I have played competitively, I had no idea what to expect”.
Maitland-Jones made her return to the sport after giving birth to her second child last August, and now has her sights set on the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
She said: “I am really excited about the possibility of making the team. Even though squash is not in the Olympics, it has been very inspiring viewing. I competed in the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002 and it would be a dream come true to return to that level of competition”.
Her next challenge will be taking on Wycombe club champion Tom Power in an exhibition match during the club’s open day on September 15.
