DAI Young is picking the positives out of Saturday’s unbelievable loss to Harlequins at Twickenham, when his team led the champions 40-13 before losing 42-40.
He said: “For 50 minutes we played as well as we have done since I’ve been at the club.
“We were really good in most things we did and if we can play 80 minutes like we played 50 it’s going to be hard for teams to beat us.”
However, their 27-point lead was eroded in the final quarter as Quins, sparked by a Tom Guest try after he charged down Nicky Robinson in front of the posts, ran in four tries to snatch it.
Young said: “It wasn’t a surprise. We knew we had to keep on playing and keep our focus.
“But we talked at half-time about not switching off and keeping our concentration, and about how good a team Quins are. There was no doubt in my mind they’d keep playing.
“I thought the charge-down kick gave them seven points and that momentum, and they pretty much scored straight after that too.
“Then in the last 20 minutes they were excellent. They’re constantly moving the ball, making it hard to defend against. And they’ve got quality players.
“We struggled to get our hands on the ball and once Quins get that type of possession, with their offloading and the tempo they play, we were always going to be up against it.
“ I don’t think there are many teams out there that can play with the tempo Quins do and they didn’t win the league by accident, but obviously we’ll be disappointed in the last 30 minutes and want to be better.”
