DANNY Edwards has told his much-changed Chalfont St Peter team their home form has to improve if they're to progress this season.

The Saints boss brought in seven new faces over the summer as he looks to better last year's mid table finish.

They won just five times on their own patch all season and Edwards says that won't be good enough if they're reach to his target of finishing higher up the Southern League Central table.

He said: "The home form is the big thing. It's one of the targets we want to be achieved. We had fantastic away form last season and it's important we make sure we tighten up.

"If we can progress slowly it means we are doing things the right way. We'd like to finish higher than last year and try to compete for the top eight."

Saints got the season off to the perfect start with a home win as goals from Adam Louth and Daniel Tomlin helped them recover to going behind to a Lewis Cumber own goal and beat Fleet Town.

Defeat followed on Tuesday night as a 2-1 half time lead became a 4-2 defeat against fledgling league leaders Royston, but Edwards said there were positives to take from the season's opening.

He said: "On Saturday we were good value for the three points and on Tuesday we were up until half time. Second half we didn't defend very well. We gave away two very sloppy goals early in the second half."

But he added: "We looked like we were going to score and had chances right up to the end. Normally you'd be screaming and shouting at people but there were bits I came away happy about."

Edwards admits inconsistency may follow having brought in so many new faces, but he feels this season's squad is better than last.

Key men like Terrell Lewis and Jerome Okimo remain at Mill Meadow - the latter despite having a trial at League One Colchester United in the summer - and the seven new faces look like they've strengthened the team.

Edwards said: "We had a squad of 14 or 15 at the end of last season and, without wanting to sound rude, we knew a couple weren't up to it.

"The ones we wanted to keep we've managed to hold on to, which has given us a strong base."

Saints face Camberley in the FA Cup tomorrow before playing Chertsey on Bank Holiday Monday.
