MARLOW’S Louisa Sawers and Rachel Cawthorn plus Jess Walker from Flackwell Heath were the nearly crew again at Dorney Lake on Wednesday.
They teamed up with Angela Hannah in the Canoe Sprint K4 final, but were unable to break their recent trend of just missing the medals with a fifth place finish.
They came home second behind eventual winners Hungary in their heats, and then raced to fourth in their semi-final.
But, after a series of fourth-place finishes in recent international competitions, took one step in the wrong direction.
They finished the 500m course less than three seconds behind the winners.
However, for Walker and Sawers, the day would still have been special. They have been best friends for a decade and said before the Games that lining up together at the start would be a memorable experience.
Walker has one more chance at Olympic gold this weekend.
The Flackwell Heath canoiest goes in the the heats of the Canoe Sprint K1 today. The final is tomorrow.
