THE Shawcross family from Hedgerley got up close and personal with history at Dorney Lake on Tuesday, as one medalist put his bronze around daughter Millie’s neck and another let her touch an historic gold.
Eileen and Tony Shawcross were at the rowing with daughter Millie, nine, and seven-year-old son Harry.
Eileen said: “We had a brilliant day and were late leaving. It was quite by chance that we met Matt Langridge and he put his medal around Millie’s neck, and then we bumped into Helen Glover too.
“It wasn’t until I got home that I thought, ‘Oh my God, that’s history. That was Britain’s first rowing gold medal and I’ve got a picture of my daughter touching it.”
