ANGRY Wanderers boss Gary Waddock said his side contributed to their own downfall with an abysmal first half showing as they were thumped 5-2 by Brentford.
He hit out at his side’s lack of desire and inability to stop simple balls coming into the box and putting the defence under pressure.
They conceded three times in the first half and Waddock said an improved second half showing papered over the cracks.
Commenting on the second half showing the Blues boss said: “There weren’t many positives I’ve got to say. Even though second half we stepped up, we have to start games like that. You’ve got to compete first and foremost and we didn’t do that.
“Whatever level you play at, that was unacceptable. There were too many deliveries into our box, when it came into our box we didn’t mark and we conceded the goals that we did.
“This keeps cropping up quite regularly. It’s frustrating the amount of goals that we concede.
“We set our stall out today with a formation to be solid to begin with – you’d never have guessed it. It’s resulted in the scoreline come the end of the game.”
Waddock was left fuming at the first half performance, saying it was among the worst of the season.
Comparing the first and second halves he said: “We took the game to them second half but we still conceded goals doing it. They were in the driving seat after the first half display.
“It couldn’t have got any slower to be honest. We didn’t compete first half, didn’t get close – we made it easy for them. The way we performed contributed to their performance.
“Credit to Brentford, the way they played, but in fairness we didn’t compete.
“We took quite a big step forward last week and we’ve taken a few back today.”
Asked if it was the worst first half of the season, Waddock said: “You’ve seen them all as well. I’ll let you judge that but I wasn’t very happy with it.”
