A ROWER from Marlow has broken a world record to become the youngest person ever to cross the Atlantic.
Greg Symondson, 22, from Marlow and the Atlantic4 have rowed their way into the record books this morning to become the youngest four-man crew to make the 3,000 mile journey across the Atlantic ocean.
Greg and friends Adam Wolley, 23, and Hugo and Ross Turner, 23 will be crowned first place winners in their Class (four-person crew) and third overall in the TALISKER Whiskey Atlantic Challenge.
Twins Hugo and Ross Turner have also made it into the record books as the first twins to row across any ocean in the world.
The crew have been rowing 70 nautical miles per day since they set off from the Canary Islands on December 5.
Greg’s family flew to Barbados last week to welcome the team across the finish line. Greg’s father, Jem Symondson said: “Over the last week or so it has been difficult to think or concentrate on anything other than Greg and the rest of the crew of The Atlantic4.
“They should arrive on Monday, a day that will be the proudest and probably the most emotional and memorable of my life.”
The friends, who met at Loughborough University, took on the tough challenge to raise £250,000 for Spinal Research, after crew member Hugo suffered an almost devastating spinal injury aged 17-years-old.
