A LEGENDARY Wanderers striker believes Marcello Trotta could be the key to their survival chances this season.

Keith Scott led the line for Blues in the early 1990s before moving to the Premiership and he says Trotta could be the difference for Gary Waddock’s struggling League One side.

He said: “He has done very well since he’s come to the club, scoring a lot of goals and is a player they need to hang on to.

“At the start of the season you might have wondered where the goals were going to come from, but he’s got eight goals already.

“I saw the two he scored at Preston and for different reasons they were both excellent finishes.

“He’s proved he can score goals at this level and Stuart Beavon, who can see a pass and thread a pass, complements him well.”

Trotta is on loan from Premiership outfit Fulham and his two goals at Preston last weekend followed a hat-trick against Exeter on Boxing Day.

Fulham boss Martin Jol has agreed to extend the striker’s loan period once already and last week said the 19-year-old could remain at Adams Park longer.

Scott has advised the player to do just that.

He said: “If I was him I’d be desperate to stay.

“He’s obviously settled in very well and my advice to him would be stay where you are, learn your trade and score as many goals as possible between now and the end of the season.

“He’s gone into a side that has struggled to produce results consistently but he’s got goals and that sends a message to other managers that you can produce on a bigger stage.”
