ANDY Leese has challenged his Chesham United team to put another winning run together after they have lost momentum with a return of five points from the last 21 available.

Chippenham (8th), Brackley (1st) and AFC Totten (2nd) have all turned them over in recent weeks, while further points have been dropped agaisnt St Albans City (10th), Oxford City (3rd) and Cambridge City (4th).

Leese said: “Our points return hasn’t been good enough. Five from 21 won’t sustain a challenge and I reminded the players of that last night.

“They responded with six goals against Northwood in the League Cup, but it doesn’t get us any points.

“We’re still very much in the mix, but we haven’t got a game this weekend so we’ll probably drop out of the top five for the first time this season.

“That will probably focus a few minds because we need to get back to winning ways.

“Cambridge have done it. They dropped down to ninth or tenth but put a little run together to get back in there.”

Chesham’s latest setback came at AFC Totten last weekend, when they went down 3-0 after Rob Bartley was sent off after ten minutes for a professional foul.

Leese said: “I thought he could let their player go. We might have gone a goal down but we wouldn’t have lost a man.

“We played extremely well after that but didn’t convert any chances and conceded twice in the last 15 minutes when we were chasing the game.”

Chesham return to action next Tuesday when they take on Slough in the Berks and Bucks Cup semi-final.
