WASPS winger Christian Wade will be out for three months with his groin injury.
The club hoped he'd be back within weeks after picking up the injury against Worcester, but the former RGS Wycombe star has had bad news after visits to two specialists.
He will have an operation tonight and won't play again until April at the earliest.
Director of rugby Dai Young said: "Just when you think things can't get any worse, they find a way to do it."
