BRENTFORD FC have confirmed they are negotiating a potential groundshare with Wasps.

The League One club based in Wasps’ spiritual home of West London say this could be at Griffin Park, capacity 12,763, or at a newly-created joint stadium.

However, they have denied reports that they are interested in buying the black and golds themselves.

Speaking to the Hounslow Chronicle, Brentford chief executive Mark Devlin said: “We have spoken to a couple of parties who are in talks with the current owner of Wasps, and who are interested in bringing Wasps back to London.

“We have had conversations about them looking to use Griffin Park, or getting involved in any potential stadium development.”

Brentford are actively seeking a move away from Griffin Park.

They had proposals to move to a new site in Lionel Road but these fell through earlier this year when development partners Barratt pulled out.

The club is now looking for new sites or new partners to revive its original plan of a move to Lionel Road.

Meanwhile, Wasps were put up for sale by owner Steve Hayes in October after his plans for a new community stadium in Booker were scotched by Wycombe District Council.

The first round deadline for indicative offers is due next week and it’s believed six parties have expressed an interest in buying the former Premiership and Heineken Cup winners, who are on the market for about £9m.

Jim Clifford of Baker Tilly, who are managing the sale, said: “Up to six parties have made approaches about buying London Wasps.”

He said that list includes a consortium of property and financial investors, a group from a rugby-playing nation in the Southern Hemisphere and an Eastern European group.
