CHESHAM have been ordered to replay their Southern League match with Redditch.

The game was abandoned after Redditch stricker Josh McKenzie hit the referee after conceding a penalty.

Chesham were already 1-0 up at the time.

A statement on the club's website said: "Chesham United Football Club is surprised and disappointed to announce that the Southern League has declared that we must re-host the abandoned league fixture with Redditch United.

"At this precise moment we are awaiting clarification as to the league rules or precedents that led to the decision that the match should be replayed in light of the position of the game at the time, the circumstances for the abandonment and the financial implications for both clubs.

"The Board of Directors will be discussing match arrangements over the next couple of days, including decisions about admission fees for the game, understanding that supporters have already paid to watch this match, three weeks ago.

"However, before making any rash decisions, thought needs to be given to the financial implications. As disappointed and surprised as we are by the decision, we must not lose focus from our aims for the season.

"Indeed, had the original match been played out to a predicted conclusion, we would have gone into last weekend's cup fixtures top of the league, and we would again be playing Cirencester Town this Saturday with the prize of going top of the league.

"We must overcome this feeling of frustration and disappointment, put this whole situation behind us, and focus on our quest for promotion.

"As a Director of Chesham United Football Club, Southern League Brian McCarthy was not present for the decision, but made his feelings known to the Board upon his return to the meeting.

"The re-arranged match will take place at The Meadow on Tuesday 6th December, 7.45pm kick-off."
