CHALFONT boss Danny Edwards has appealed for calm ahead of Saints' match at Chertsey today (ko 1pm).

There has been bad blood between the sides ever since Saints player Barry Brosnan broke a Chertsey player's leg in a tackle in February.

The match had to be abandoned as Chertsey players sought retribution.

And when the teams met again in the Associate Members Trophy earlier this season, Chertsey were still hell-bent on revenge and had a player sent off after the final whistle as temperatures flared again.

Brosnan will play tomorrow even though Edwards accepts that he could well be a target.

Edwards said: "It was a bad challenge but it was an accident. It wasn't malicious. He mistimed the tackle and caught the player. He said sorry at the time and is very sorry about the whole incident.

"But I'm not going to drop him because it is not fair.

"We had one of our players who broke his leg in a match against Flackwell Heath and we have just accepted it. These unfortunate things do happen in football but some of the Chertsey players don't seem to be able to accept it."

Edwards will take his players to one side before tomorrow's game and call on them to keep their cool and he hopes that the Chertsey manager will do the same.

The prospect of more trouble thas left a cloud over what should have been a good week for Chalfont.

The Saints kept their FA Vase dream alive with a 3-1 win at Sawbridgeworth Town in the second qualifying round last Saturday.

Goals from Rene Barriteau, Mark Needham and an own goal booked the Saints an away tie to Felixstowe and Walton United of the Ridgeons Eastern Counties Division One League.
