HIGH Wycombe failed to dent Swanage and Wareham's 100 per cent league record so far in Powergen South West Division Two East despite giving their hosts an early scare.
After falling behind to an early penalty, Wycs stunned their hosts by taking the lead through an Ian Thompson try which was converted by full back Toby Radford.
But Swanage hit back to lead 10-7 at half time and they extended that to 20-7 at the end after Wycs had lost Simon Gaster with a cut eye.
Wycs play host to Bournemouth tomorrow at Kingsmead.
In the same division, Marlow moved up to fourth in the table with an impressive 18-5 win at Keynsham.
Marlow last visited Keynsham in 2003 when both teams were in South West One and they lost 39-7 on that occasion.
But Marlow's confidence grew as they inflicted some good early pressure on their hosts.
It paid off when Ewen Hunter kicked to touch on the Keynsham five metre line. A text book throw from Garvan De Bruir to Jaksa Lovreta at the back of the line out was secured by Dan Gillespie and the pack drove over the try line for Gillespie to score. Hunter again used the breeze to convert the try and Marlow were 7-0 up after five minutes.
Hunter then added two more penalties to stretch the lead to 13-0 before half time.
Both teams began the second half with a man in the sin bin and Marlow managed better with Chris Ellis scuttling over to score his first try for the club.
Keynsham hit back with a try of their own 15 minutes from time but it amounted to nothing more than a consolation score.
