JOHN Gorman insists Wanderers have got enough firepower to win promotion even if Nathan Tyson is sold in January's transfer window.
Birmingham manager Steve Bruce joined the growing queue of admirers watching Tyson when he showed up at Adams Park on Saturday to see the country's top scorer close up.
But the Brum boss only got to see his intended target for 45 minutes as Wanderers fans got their first glimpse of life without Tyson when the 13-goal hotshot went off with a knee injury during Saturday's 3-3 top-of-the-table thriller with Chester City.
But two goals from Tommy Mooney and a header from skipper Roger Johnson ensured Blues maintained their unbeaten league record against a Chester side who had previously only conceded two goals away from home all season.
Gorman said: "Tommy Mooney and Kevin Betsy who played up front when Tyson went off were superb. They were our two best players.
"They caused all sorts of problems and showed that we are not a one-man team.
"Mooney with his two goals was outstanding and so was Betsy. They showed we can score goals even if Nathan isn't playing.
"It proved to me that Kevin can be a replacement should we lose Nathan but of course I am hoping he will stay."
Blues have already turned down a £500,000 bid from Sheffield Wednesday for Tyson, which could have risen to £600,000 if they got promoted to the Premiership within four years.
Premiership club Wigan Athletic are also known admirers while top flight-clubs Charlton and Everton are also monitoring the former England U20 international's progress alongside a rash of League One clubs including high-flying Sheffield United and Wolves.
But Tyson, who was struggling with a knee injury before the kick-off, was a shadow of his normal self as Chester's tough tackling centre half Luke Dimech gave him a tough ride.
Tyson had a midweek x-ray on the knee problem which flared up after he scored a spectacular double against Wrexham on Tuesday and that failed to reveal the extent of the problem.
Wanderers are now hoping that he recovers in time for Friday's trip to face League Two leaders Grimsby Town at Blundell Park.
