RAMPANT Wanderers romped to a 4-1 win over Wrexham on Tuesday and then dedicated their victory to tragic young fan Michael Johnson who died of cancer.

The Blues huddled together by the touchline before the kick off and said let's do it for Michael.

And they did just that with another blistering performance as they lived up to their tag of being the great entertainers.

Boss John Gorman asked his team to score four goals one for each year to celebrate his own grandson Aaron's fourth birthday and his team obliged as they tamed the Red Dragons.

Gorman said: "I'm a very happy man. It was a tremendous performance by my team. We could have won by a lot more goals.

"The football was superb and we have done that consistently this season.

"We are great entertainers. We are worth watching every game and it would be great to see more people here because the players deserve that. I would love to see the fans that we have got bring a friend and spread the word about the football we are playing."

Wycombe's win came complete with party pieces. They opened the scoring with an outrageous goal from master marksman Nathan Tyson.

He raced onto a high ball from Stefan Oakes which Wrexham's rookie keeper Michael Jones missed totally as he raced outside his box and, with all the time in the world, Tyson lay face down on the turf and used his head to roll the ball into the net.

That goal arrived on 17 minutes and by then Wycombe had already had two goals disallowed for offside, the first legitimately on four minutes and the second from Kevin Betsy was harsh.

Wycombe were rampant and Wrexham were panic stricken.

Dave Baylis summed up the visitors' nerves when he lost the ball to Betsy in midfield. The Wycombe man, who scored a hat-trick in Saturday's 3-2 win at Mansfield, could have squared to Tyson but instead rounded the keeper to double Blues' lead on 22 minutes.

Tommy Mooney and Argentinian Sergio Torres sparkled for Blues and both went close to extending the lead further before Wrexham hit back.

Mark Jones slammed a 25-yarder to narrow the scores on 53 minutes which briefly gave Wrexham hope.

Wanderers fans squirmed uncomfortably in their seats remembering how Wycombe had led three times at Stockport and drawn; led Aston Villa 3-1 at half-time and then lost 8-3 and how they almost lost a three goal half time lead at Mansfield just three days earlier.

But the nerves were quickly extinguished as Mooney restored Wycombe's two-goal advantage.

Tyson made it running at pace towards the red shirts before passing it to Mooney who had peeled out wide from where he drilled his shot into the net.

Mooney tried to repay the compliment moments later setting up Tyson, but this time the keeper was equal to his fierce shot.

Wrexham, to their credit never gave up and, in Sir Alex Ferguson's son Darren and their Welsh U21 international Mark Jones, they kept Wycombe on their toes but there was no way back.

Wycombe added a fourth goal with nine minutes left as Tyson bagged his second of the night.

He blasted home the loose ball after Betsy was tackled to put the seal on Blues' third successive league win.

Wrexham boss Denis Smith said: "We could have let nine goals in tonight. It was some appalling defending."
