RUGBY: High Wycombe got their home South West Two East campaign off to a flying start on Saturday with a 33-22 win over Wimborne.
Jon Smith put Wycombe ahead with a penalty, only for Wimborne to level. Smith then ran in for the opening try after good work by Ian Thompson.
Wimborne levelled again with a converted try but Wycs kept plugging away and were rewarded when Tony Dorling went past his marker to score in the corner. They then went further ahead when number eight Richard Blunden picked up from a scrum and rampaged over to make it 20-10 at half time.
The second half saw Wycombe maintain their pressure and when Wimborne's scrum half was sin-binned, they cut loose.
First Smith notched a penalty before Toby Radford went over in the corner after he was released by Kieran Mann and Smith.
Wimborne responded with a well-worked try but Wycs went 33-15 up when Gilbert Chinjekure charged down a kick and prop Pete Dorling scored.
There was still time for Wimborne to score a converted effort but Wycombe had more than enough to win the game.
Wycs visit Swanage & Wareham tomorrow (ko 3pm).
Wycs 2XV enjoyed a 14-8 win over Tadley to make it three wins in a row. Sam Ranson and Ben Kiddby scored the tries.
The fourth team also won to complete a successful weekend for Wycs.
