WANDERERS boss John Gorman is glad Northampton gazumped him in the chase to sign West Ham striker Petr Mikolanda because now he can watch him in League Two combat.
The Czech U21 international joined the Cobblers on a one month's loan just 48 hours after Gorman watched him score for West Ham reserves against Ipswich.
Gorman watched Mikolanda as he searches a potential replacement for Nathan Tyson in case he loses his top scorer in the transfer window.
He said: "In a way it is good that he has gone to Northampton because we will be able to see what he is like playing at our level. We will be able to see how he fits in playing against League Two defences.
The Czech Republic Under-21 international joined the Hammers in the summer from Viktoira Ziskov but is yet to start a senior game at Upton Park.
West Ham were keen to let him go out on loan and actually recommended him to Wanderers before Northampton jumped in.
Wanderers have been drawn at home to Dagenham and Redbridge in the first round of this season's LDV Vans Trophy.
