BOTTOM clubs Thame and Beaconsfield Sycob clash today (ko 3pm) in what has been described as a "massive game" for both clubs.

United sit two points above Sycob and could hammer the first nail into the coffin of their Division One West rivals by taking all three points at home.

Thame boss Tony Joyce said: "It's a massive game. We were bottom of the league last week and were lucky enough to get a win and go above Beaconsfield.

"They will be looking for their first win and will be thinking they have a very good chance of getting it.

"We've got to do everything in our power to get that win. Both clubs are not financially secure so it would be nice to get another three points and build on it."

Simon Delahunty, Beaconsfield's new caretaker manager, believed the important thing was not who they were playing but that his players got out of the losing habit.

He said: "No matter how positive you try and make the players they suffer after each defeat. It's important that we get a win under our belts.

"You don't want to become detached whether you're challenging for the title or avoiding relegation. You want to beat the teams around you."

Both sides prepared for this weekend's big one in less than impressive style by getting knocked out of the Errea Cup on Tuesday night.

United were thumped 4-0 at home to Berkhamsted while Sycob lost 2-0 at Burnham with the goals coming from Adam Logie and Terry O'Connor.

Thame fell behind in the seventh minute when Ben Porter raced through to score and Leon Gordon added a second in almost identical fashion ten minutes later as the home defence went walkabout again.

United threatened only occasionally and were undone for a third time when Chris Haddon pounced after Thame goalkeeper Paul Searl parried Gordon's shot in the 55th minute.

Haddon grabbed his second and Berko's fourth with nine minutes remaining.

Joyce added: "We were outclassed and outplayed. For the first 25 minutes we were all over the place. Berkhamsted passed it around well but we made schoolboy errors. Our boys have got to grow up fast and the performance was not good enough."

The result was a far cry from last Saturday when Thame recorded their first win of the season by beating Stourport Swifts 2-1 thanks to goals from Alex Stewart and Wayne Spencer.

Meanwhile, Sycob lost 2-0 at home to Brackley Town at the weekend. Delahunty confirmed he still wanted the job on a full-time basis despite two defeats from two games.

He added: "There's no fun in taking over a side that's winning everything. I like a challenge."
