HOCKEY: Amersham & Chalfont enjoyed a successful return to the top division of the Trysports Three Counties League on Saturday when they beat Marlow 2-0.
The newly-promoted side were pinned back at the start but gradually won the midfield battle before taking the lead on 18 minutes when Sarah Cartledge fed Laura Patterson who scored.
And it was Patterson who grabbed the second when she scored from a penalty corner on 25 minutes.
Marlow pressed in the second half and had a shot cleared off the line but A&C hung on for victory.
Today sees A&C entertain Bracknell at Newlands Park (10.30am start) while Marlow visit Rover Oxford.
In the same division, South Bucks grabbed a 1-1 draw at Banbury. After going 1-0 down at half time, South Bucks came away with a share of the points thanks to Maggie Southerden's goal with five minutes left.
South Bucks entertain City of Oxford tomorrow.
Wycombe Rye Ladies begin life in the women's South League tomorrow when they host Henley in Division 3A.
Meanwhile, their second team enjoyed a 2-1 win over West Witney in their first Premier B game on Saturday. They entertain Oxford Hawks tomorrow.
Wycombe Rye 2As beat A&C 3XI 2-1 in Division One. Today sees the 2As without a league game, while A&C entertain Bicester.
Goals by Allan Wells and Matt Harvey helped South Bucks men beat Bicester 3-1 in a friendly.
