BLUES boss John Gorman says everyone of his players is capable of playing at a higher level and has asked them to prove it over the next 46 matches, starting with tomorrow's league opener at home to Carlisle United.

Gorman has assembled a squad which has got rival managers quaking in their boots and has left the bookies slashing their title odds to make Wycombe second favourites behind Northampton.

And Gorman's right hand man Steve Brown says the bookies know what they are talking about.

He said: "I have never met a broke bookie yet. They are not normally wrong and I would like to think they won't be this time."

Gorman has lost just two players from the side which finished tenth last season with Steve Claridge and Gus Uhlenbeek departing. But he has strengthened his pack with the addition of goal machine Tommy Mooney, ex-Premiership men Stefan Oakes and Kevin Betsy, Conference hotshot Charlie Griffin and defender Will Antwi.

He is also hoping to thrash out a pay-as-you-play deal with former England man John Salako which would enable the player to combine his football with his career with Sky television.

Gorman said: "The players have given me a real selection headache this year because I've got so many good ones to choose from.

"I looked around my team when we had a meeting the other day and I thought everyone of them is capable of playing at a higher level and that's a nice feeling to have a manager."

Gorman has already settled on his 11 starters tomorrow but will tell those left out that they are just as important.

He said: "This year is not going to be about 11 players. It is about the squad. There are so many of them looking the business and for me the substitutes are the most important players because it is the team that finishes the game that can win you the game or lose it.

"I like to use my substitutes. I like to freshen things up.

"I think all the players know they are not going to play every game. There has to be times when players like Nathan Tyson might have to be freshened up.

"People like Jonny Dixon are not going to be bit-parts any more. They are starting to become men.

"Charlie Griffin gives us a new dimension and Ian Stonebridge is going to be a much better player now because the pressure is off him. He's not a centre forward and if he scores for us it will be a bonus."

Wanderers go into their first match without the injured Antwi, Griffin Keith Ryan and Mark Philo.
