TWO-GOAL midweek hero Kevin Betsy says it was G-force that persuaded him to sign for Wycombe Wanderers.

The former Premiership midfielder says John Gorman was so persuasive in their transfer talks that he couldn't wait to drop down a division and join the canny Scot's Adams Park revolution.

Betsy said: "The manager made me feel wanted. He was a massive factor in me coming here.

"He was on the phone to me every other day telling me what a good club it is and how much he wanted me.

"When you've got a manger that's so enthusiastic and wants you like that, it's very difficult to turn down.

"He showed me a lot of love and I had to sign really."

Now Betsy reckons Gorman's G-force will rub off on him and the the rest of the players and take Wycombe up this season.

He said: "A lot of people have asked me what am I doing at Wycombe and asked what I am doing playing at this level but at the end of the day I'm here because of the manager.

"He's got a lot of ambition, so has the manging director Steve Hayes. They want to push the club forward by playing football the right way and I want to be part of that.

"I have got full respect for John Gorman. I know he's going to get the best out of me."

And he added: "People have accused me of a lack of ambition dropping down a division from Oldham but that's unfair.

"Football is about ambition and mine is to play at the highest level possible.

"I didn't want to play the style of football the manager wanted at Oldham. He wasn't getting the best out of me and I wasn't performing to the best of my ability.

"I've taken a step back to go back forward again. I haven't come into this division just to be playing at Boston away."

The former Fulham, Oldham and Barnsley reckons that Gorman is the man to take him back up.

Betsy said: "We've got an excellent squad.

"On paper it should get us up and there's a lot of pressure on us because of that.

"But having good players is not enough on its own when you you go to places like Bury on a Tuesday. Sometimes it's a mental thing. Hopefully we'll get through that and our football will shine."

Betsy showed his class and his ability to slum it in front of just 240 fans at Basingstoke with two goals in a minute and a sublime assist for Jonny Dixon.

And it was a particularly sweet night for Betsy to run into scoring form.

His sister used to go to school with Basingstoke boss Ernie Howe's sister and he has always kept an eye on how they get on.

He said: "I've known him for a long time and I always look out to see how they have got on."

And Betsy added: "Pre-season has gone very well.

"It's all about getting match fitness really at this stage and to get on the scoresheet twice as well was a real bonus for me."
