FLACKWELL'S first pre-season friendly at home to Wingate & Finchley was under threat on Tuesday due to a police investigation into the London bombings.
Opponents Wingate had difficulty leaving the area as detectives sealed off a major part of the Finchley area containing a car, believed to be connected with one of the bombers.
Heathens secretary Christine Hobbs explained: "The Wingate ground was right next to the area sealed off.
"Thankfully, the kit men realised what was going to happen and got the kit out.
"The manager ended up directing players out of Finchley by phone. We had to play it by ear but we actually only kicked off two minutes late."
And Flackwell wasted no time getting into the action with new player Ryan Newman proving to be a handful.
He opened the scoring in the first half when he was played through by George Needham and he unleashed a powerful shot into the left corner.
Wingate equalised before half time and that's how the scoreline stayed as both sides rang the chances during the break.
Heath are at home again tomorrow when they entertain Hampton & Richmond (ko 3pm).
