WYCOMBE Town snatched the Cressex Summer League title by a single point from long-time leaders CBF and CBF had only themselves to blame as they were held to draws by FC Beconfield and Athletico Risborough.
Their only win came during their first match when they beat Dream Team 2-1 and it was not enough to stop Town from coming up on the rails to snatch the title with maximum points from their four games.
Sensing their opportunity, they began their pursuit in determined mood with a 2-0 win over Wycombe Town A with Mark Austin and Ashley Smith both netting.
A hat-trick by James Suarez coupled with one-a-piece from Sean Kelleher and Johnny Mason then destroyed second from bottom Mushrooms FC to the tune of 5-0 as they served further notice of their intent.
With six points in the bag their two remaining games against FC El Shadai and Tring West End were going to be a test of strength but the El Shadai made life much easier for them when they had two players sent off allowing Town to pinch a 1-0 win.
That brought it all down to the final game against Tring West End, who had already secured their place in the top-eight qualifying spots for finals day.
Town piled on the pressure but were denied in the early stages by some fantastic saves from Tring's keeper Chris Hobley.
But he was eventually beaten by Johnny Mason's strike which gave Town an interval lead.
Tring hit back though and equalised just after half time to set Town's nerves jangling but with the championship at stake, Lee Mason hit the winner for Town.
Elsewhere in the league it was all about qualifying for Sunday's final day when the top eight teams will compete for the championship trophy alongside Wycombe Town and CBF.
With FC El Shadai pressing the self-destruct button, the final qualifying position was up for grabs for either Kings Head or Wycombe Hermits.
With both teams requiring maximum points from their remaining games, the crunch game came when Kings Head and Hermits met face-to-face.
James Gibbs opened the scoring for the Kings Head side before Jason Hawes equalised for the Hermits.
It looked as though it would remain honours even until Douglas Buchanan hit the winner for the Kings Head.
With three games to go, Kings Head needed to win their remaining matches and hope The Hermits slipped up.
Kings Head did their bit with 1-0 wins over Four Seasons and AFC Downley B before finishing off with a 3-0 win over Athletico Risborough courtesy of two goals from James Gibbs and one from Chris Rowley.
And the Hermits demise came when they crashed 3-0 to Dream Team.
