ENGLAND aces John Terry and Joe Cole tipped Wanderers for promotion after playing against them.

The Chelsea stars notched a 5-1 win but both conceded Wycombe gave them problems.

Cole is convinced the bookies have got it right by installing John Gorman's side, which featured four summer signings, as second favourites in League Two.

He said: "They are a team which play great football and I fully expect them to get promoted this year. John Gorman's a great manager. He always gets his teams to play football and they'll do very well this year."

Terry, whose brother Paul went up as second divison champions with Yeovil last year, echoed that.

He said: "Wycombe have got a great chance. The manager has brought some good players in.

"They are a great threat up front and with the pace of Nathan Tyson they'll cause anyone problems.

"They look solid defensively and are attacking in midfield so they must have a great chance.

"I'll certainly be looking out for their results."

Wycombe's former boss Martin O'Neill was also impressed. He was watching a match for the first time since he quit Celtic because his wife Geraldine is seriously ill.

He said: "You would expect a Premiership side which has won the league at a canter to score a few goals but I think it augurs well for Wycombe.

"They played some lovely football against some of the very best players in the world and that's brilliant news.

"There's a really good atmosphere about the place.

"I know Stefan Oakes because I had him at Leicester City. He's got a lot of ability and he will certainly create opportunites for people. Tommy Mooney will also be an excellent signing and make a big difference.

"Danny Senda also looks very good indeed and if the good players at the club can stay injury-free I think that will be significant."

Wanderers continue their pre-season preparation at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers tonight and then against Aston Villa in the Steve Brown testimonial on Monday. Both matches have 7.45pm starts.
