JOHN Salako staked his claim for a Wanderers contract by scoring one goal and making another as the Blues began their pre-season with a 5-0 demolition of EU San Jose in the opening tie of the San An Cup in Ibiza.
The 36-year-old former England international rolled back the years as he made the most of his 65-minute performance with a come-and-get-me display which left boss John Gorman drooling.
He has now opened talks with the former Crystal Palace, Coventry, Fulham and Charlton man and, with Blues' managing director Steve Hayes now having linked up with the squad in Ibiza, things could gather pace.
Gorman played Salako at left back last Tuesday and with Chris Carruthers having a change of heart over his move to Wanderers and joining Bristol Rovers instead, the left back position is the only part of the field where Wycombe don't have cover.
And Gorman is confident that Salako would be a good addition to his promotion-chasing troops.
Gorman said: "You could see why he won his England caps. He did very well in the game and would be a good squad player for us.
"He played very well, he's trained very well and his attitude has been fantastic."
But Wycombe are not the only club trying to sign Salako. An America Major Soccer League club are also courting the man who played 40 matches for League One side Brentford last season.
