NEW SIGNING Charlie Griffin got on the scoresheet as Blues began their pre-season campaign with a 5-0 stuffing of UE San Jose in Ibiza.

The former Forest Green marksman crowned his debut in style nodding in the third goal as Blues ran riot in the first game of the San An Cup.

Boss John Gorman said: "I was really pleased for him. He's shown up well in training and it's great for him to have got off the mark."

It was a good night all round for the Blues boss as he watched his team which included four of the club's five summer signings and triallist John Salako put in a five star performance.

Wanderers raced out of the blocks against the island's top club with Jonny Dixon opening the scoring after just four minutes.

Dixon, who spent some of last season on loan at Aldershot, showed his intention to nail a first team spot when he hammered in the opener with a ferocious right footer from 25 yards.

New-boy Stefan Oakes almost doubled the advantage with a 35-yard bullet which the in-form keeper pushed onto the bar.

But it only delayed the inevitable as Wanderers doubled their lead before half time.

John Salako, who has been training with Wanderers in a bid to win a contract, got it as he came up from the left back berth to volley home new-signing Tommy Mooney's cross.

Gorman had already said he would change his side around at half time and he was good to his word with nine changes for the second period.

But the second half team left off where the first half outfit had finished with Salako again to the fore. He delivered the cross from which Griffin opened his account.

The fourth goal wasn't long in coming with Matt Bloomfield scoring after Joe Burnell touched an indirect free kick to him.

Last season's top-scorer Nathan Tyson spurned several good opportunities to boost the score before finally getting his name on the scoresheet from the penalty spot after the impressive Ikechi Anya had been up-ended.

Gorman was delighted with the performance but refused to get carried away.

He said: "We played very well and passed the ball well but it is just a build-up game.

"We won't get carried away by the score because there is a lot of work still to be done.

"The team are looking good, the spirit is excellent and it has been a good start.

"The important thing is that the players got a good 45 minutes each and we didn't get any injuries."

Wanderers were due to continue their Ibiza campaign last night with the second and final game against League One side Oldham Athletic.
