ROB Lee agreed to stay with Wycombe Wanderers for another year and insisted he's not here to put his feet up.

The former England midfielder, who turns 40 in February, has agreed a match to match deal for the season and has set himself a target of playing 40 games and helping Wycombe to promotion.

He said: "I want to play in every game. I don't believe in being rested I think if you're playing well you should play in every game and that's what I'll be trying to do.

"Football is such an ageist sport. I was 30 when people first started saying I should have to call it a day but people like Teddy Sheringham and Paul Ince are proving people wrong.

And Lee is as hungry now as the day he made his Charlton debut 22 years ago.

He won promotion to the top flight with both Newcastle and Charlton and is now chasing a hat-trick with a Wanderers side installed as second favourites by the bookies to win League Two this season.

He said: "I have had a great playing career and winning promotion would be a fantastic way to finish it."

Lee says his decision to play on for another year was down to John Gorman.

Lee wants to go into the coaching and management side of the game when he does finally hang his boots up and says the chance to learn the ropes under the former England assistant manager was too good to turn down.

He said: "I got on fantastically well with John with England and I really enjoyed it at Wycombe last year. He wants to play the way I think football should be played.

"I want to be a manager and coach and i's an opportunity for me to learn under John."

Lee hopes also to help out with the coaching of Wanderers youngsters during his time.

He said: "I hope I can help them but I won't be making it easy for them to take my place in the team."

Lee made seven appearances for Wanderers last season and was impressed with the calibre of the players and the style of football.

But he reckons the key to winning promotion is to develop the knack of winning the ugly games as well.

He said: "We've got knuckle down and win those games 1-0 and that's what we didn't do last year."

Blues boss John Gorman is delighted to get him. He reckons Lee's presence could be a crucial factor and a vital steadying influence in the hurly-burly action of League Two.

He said: "People go on about his age but he is pure quality as we saw last season. He wants to be part of this club and I think what he saw from us last season whetted his appetite."
