A SCHEME launched by Wycombe Wanderers to promote football in the community has been given wheels by a High Wycombe car dealership.

Staff from Citygate Volkswagen handed the keys of a new VW Transporter van over to club officials on Wednesday, June 8.

The vehicle will be used to ferry playing staff and equipment to schools across south Buckinghamshire as the club looks to bolster its community ties.

Dave Evans, scheme manager, said: "Our last van really needed replacing so we approached Citygate.

"We were delighted when they said they wanted to be involved in a partnership with us.

"All of our equipment is transported in the van there's goals, nets and, of course, plenty of footballs. At the moment our inflatable football pitch is being transported from one course to another yet there is still ample room for all our other equipment.

"We couldn't do our job without it."

Wycombe Wanderers currently coaches youngsters at 46 schools from High Wycombe, Amersham, Chesham and Maidenhead, with 13 full-time and 70 part-time staff.

Mark Hudson, brand manager for London Road-based Citygate, added: "We firmly believe that our business should be very much a part of the much wider community in which our customers live.

"This provided us with the perfect opportunity to support a project very much at the heart of the town.

"Children and young people across the area benefit immensely and have lots of fun due to the dedication and passion to the sport of the community scheme team and we are delighted to be playing a small part in its excellent work."
