ALAN McKie equalled the championship record at the Bucks Schools Championships in Milton Keynes in Saturday with an amazing series of leaps in the Under 17 high jump competition.
The Cressex Community School teenager entered the competition after all but one of the other competitors had been eliminated at 1.70m and then scorched his way up the heights in five centimetre bands to clear 1.90m all at the first attempt.
That secured him the qualification standard for the English Schools Championships in Birmingham in July and in his next attempt he equalled the championship record at 1.92 and again he sailed clear of this key mark.
He then attempted 1.95 to try and set a new record and that only just eluded him.
Jade Forbes-Wattley from Wycombe High School also achieved a lifetime best to win the U15 long jump with 5.05 metres. Later she added her second County Schools title with victory in the 200m with a season's best of 27.7 seconds.
Erin Ruxton also had plenty to celebrate with an ESSA Standard effort in the triple jump and a personal best 31.19 metres in the discus.
Also clocking up ESAA standards were Daniel Pembroke and Adam Toone who both exceeded the mark in the Under 15 Javelin.
Vicky Fouhy, from Dr Challoners High School, was also in winning form. She ran from the front to win the 800m title in two minutes, 18 seconds..
The Royal Grammar School's Rob Record also coasted home to win the U17 hurdles.
The girls U17 hurdles 300m went the way of Emerald Willett and the Wycombe Abbey student took the 80m hurdles as well.
Catherine Hall-Jones' frustration of winning, missing the qualification mark for the 75m hurdles, was wiped out on Monday when she achieved the crucial 11.9 seconds timing when competing at the English Cup Regional Round at Gulidford.
