LAWRENCE Dallaglio handed out the British Lions shirts to the players on Saturday the first current player to carry out the tradition.
The Wasps captain was invited to carry out the ceremony normally reserved for former Lions greats in recognition of his three Lions tours.
Dallaglio, who had to drop out of the tour after fracturing his leg in the Lions' first game against Bay of Plenty, offered encouragement before the game against New Zealand Maori but he was powerless to prevent the Lions from losing their first match on their New Zealand Tour.
The tourists went down 19-13, despite the best efforts of Wasps trio Matt Dawson, Simon Shaw and Josh Lewsey.
Lewsey has been picked for today's midweek game against Wellington.
