UNLUCKY Alice Groom was rushed into intensive care after a hurdling accident and will now miss this weekend's county schools championship at Milton Keynes.
The 15-year-old Wycombe Phoenix athlete fell awkwardly at the first hurdle during the club's Young Athletes meeting at Harrow on Saturday.
Races were held up for 40 minutes as the ambulance crew were called in.
By the time she arrived in hospital she had gone into shock and had to be rushed into intensive care.
It was feared she may have suffered internal bleeding, but it later emerged that the damage was nothing more serious than damaged ligaments around the hip.
The injury has left her needing crutches though and she is out of this weekend's championships where she was expected to shine in both the hurdles and the high jump.
She is now hoping to be back for the National Championships in Birmingham in August.
The accident happened at the start of the 80 metres hurdles. She got away from the gun well but her timing was then mixed up as there was confusion over whether the starter had called it back for a false start or not.
She had also been competing in the high jump but was unable to finish the event.
The incident put a dampener on the meeting for the club but spirits were lifted as Annette Dean had a double win in the 75m and 150m while Sian Huskstable finished first in the B stream.
There was also a double in the 100m for Scott Pulley and Cian Pierce. Another double win came in the 800m with Chester Mounsher storming home closely followed by Jim Green. Mounsher followed his win with second places in the 400m and discus.
Mark Booth dominated the 1500m with a fantastic win and David Bushrod provided another first place in the javelin 12m ahead of his nearest rival.
Meanwhile, Heather Forde finished second in the shot with clubmate Becka Colleron third, while the 4x400m relay squad of Jim Green, Chester Mounsher, Mark Booth and Michael Cafferty came second.
It was a busy weekend all round for Harriers with the women competing at Horsham in the Southern Women's League 24 hours earlier.
Hannah Groom and Lauren Rutter dominated the 800m, finishing first and second respectively, while Sue Aphergis won the 3,000m and followed up with second places in the 1,500 and 800m.
Lucy Rogers came first in the B stream 1,500m but there were also good performances in the field.
There were pole vault firsts for Judy Turton and Sam Darvell, while Shannah Sherman and Khaley Woolnough dominated the shot coming first and second with throws of 6.77m and 6.7m respectively. Woolnough followed this with a first in the B stream discus, while Gemma Garland was the master in the A stream with a winning throw of 18.76m.
Katherine Parkinson and Debbie Sutton added first and second places in the hammer.
