COMPETITION winners Sean Woodley, Ray Burnett and Fred Calleja spent a day with the stars on Saturday when they took part in the Redgrave & Pinsent Celebrity Golf Classic.

The trio played for the Bucks Free Press team alongside singer Jess Conrad in the event at Harleyford Golf Club, which raised £10,000 for children's charity SPARKS.

Free Press reserve Tony Bacon also took part, playing with former England rugby player Chris Sheasby.

Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Matthew Pinsent were joined by a host of celebrities including former snooker World Champion Peter Ebdon and Goodies actor Tim Brooke-Taylor.

Burnett, father of Wycombe District swimmer and Olympic finalist Simon, was delighted to be among the competition winners.

He said: "It was a great day but my golf could have been better. But then again, everybody who plays wishes that.

"Jess is a super guy, really laid-back. I had a chat with Matthew Pinsent because he and Simon were both at the Olympics."

The Bucks Free Press team finished in the middle of the field but didn't go home empty-handed after Woodley claimed the nearest the pin condition.

The Harleyford members Peter Skelcher, Ian McDonald and Keith Riptkin used their local knowledge to emerge as overall winners alongside Karl Howman, star of the TV commercials for Flash.

Sir Steve played with Christian Donald, the brother and caddie of Ryder Cup and USPGA Tour player Luke.

The Donalds had returned to their parents' High Wycombe home for the previous week's BMW Championship and Christian stayed on in Bucks to take part in the event at the course where he was previously a professional.

Sir Steve's team came home in second place.
