GUS Uhlenbeek has left Wycombe Wanderers after failing to agree terms on a new deal.

The 34-year-old former Fulham, Sheffield United and Ipswich man rejected manager John Gorman's offer of a one year contract and is now hunting another club.

Gorman said: "I'm sorry to see him go but his age was a factor and travelling from his home in Sheffield didn't help.

"But I cannot speak highly enough of Gus and if we could have given him what he wanted we would.

"I wish him all the best and hope he gets a club nearer to his home.

"He has been great for us. He was a credit to the club and to himself and a pleasure to work with.

"I have got nothing but good things to say about him."

The Dutch-born defender was brought to Adams Park on a free transfer by previous boss Tony Adams and played in a number of positions for Wycombe last season.

He made 39 starts for the club, scoring four goals.

He was also regarded as one of the club's most competitive players and picked up eight yellow cards as well as being sent off once during his year in Bucks.

But with Wanderers having snapped up utility man Kevin Betsy this week, Blues are confident they have already replaced Uhlenbeek with a younger model.

He becomes the second Wanderer to reject the terms he was offered and to walk out the Adams Park door.

Veteran striker Steve Claridge also left after rejecting the pay deal he was offered by the club.

Claridge has been linked with a move to Conference side Exeter City, while Uhlenbeek has got talks lined up with another Football League club next week
