WHILE the Warriors were not exactly on the warpath at the weekend, the firsts still managed to record our second win of the season beating North Mymms.

Much of the win can be credited to an outstanding performance by Paul Woody' Woodroffe. Woody's five wickets in the dying stages of the match turned the game and put a smile on the captain after a tough week in the media.

The win was setup with a solid opening partnership by promoted opener Neville Haynes and Mark Jelly' Eyles. Jelly's stroke-play on and off the pitch while a Bucks Free Press photographer was around was a definite highlight.

Jason Harrison continued his good form, getting struck flush on the foot with his first ball then missing the next three before forging a gritty 48. I think the captain made some runs too.

Mark Wright finished the innings in typical style with a quickfire 60 off 42 balls, including five six's. This display of pure strength could only be attributed to the presence of his new girlfriend, a cricketer herself. After the game the two love birds could be seen analysing his technique.

The seconds travelled to Wokingham where a typically slow and steady start by Steve Bird and Kosh got the boys off to a flyer with 22 off the first 19 overs. It was left to the older heads of the team to post a respectable total with Bert' Russell finishing unbeaten on 25, obviously playing for his average. Unfortunately it wasn't enough after the bowlers ate too much tea and the Wokingham batters cruised to victory.

Captain Downer focused on the positives of the day, the athletic fielding of John Stevens and the steady improvement of the younger players.

Socially, the first outing in Marlow was deemed a success and should be repeated more often.
