CHESHAM boss Steve Bateman has secured the services of top scorer John Lawford for another year.
The 33-goal striker put pen to paper on a new deal this week and Bateman is now hoping to sort out his defence.
He wants to bring in four new faces as he bids to turn United from mid-table also rans to promotion candidates.
He said: "You only have to look at our goals against column to see where are problem lies."
Meanwhile Bateman has urged the club to give tenants Southall the boot.
Southall's tenancy agreement reportedly brings in a five figure sum each year but Bateman says it is not worth it for the damage it does to his pitch.
He said: "Our pitch is among the worst in the league. It is an embarrassment. It never gets a rest. We have the first team, our youth team, the ladies and Southall playing on it."
And Bateman reckons the state of the pitch is the reason why Chesham have so far been unable to attract any tasty pre-season opponents.
He said: "Wycombe, Tottenham and Watford wren't happy with the pitch when they last came here and maybe that's why we've got no league sides lined up."
Beaconsfield Sycob U18's completed a cup double when they beat Bromley 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out to lift the Brian Hitchins Challenge Cup for the first time.
The Rams, who won the B&B Junior Cup only two weeks ago, won it with Ben Collins converting the final penalty after the match had finished 2-2 after extra time.
Earlier Becky went into a 1-0 lead through Tim Walsh but Bromley levelled with an Aaron Coldman own goal.
But he made up for his misfortune when he headed in Jack Jeffries' corner to restore SYCOB's lead.
But with only 10 minutes remaining, Bromley levelled again to force extra time.
l Beaconsfield have arranged home pre-season friendlies against Watford on August 2 and against Wycombe on August 8.
They are also hoping to arrange games against QPR and Yeovil.
