FORESTERS made up for last year's disappointment by beating league winners FC Beaconsfield in the Sunday Combination Cup Final at Adams Park on Sunday.
An extra-time goal by Jack Dixon proved to be the difference but the main talking point was an extraordinary incident midway through the second half when some Beaconsfield players left the pitch after getting involved in an argument with people in the crowd, leading to play being held up for a few minutes.
Foresters were leading 1-0 at that point but Beaconsfield were stirred into action and grabbed an equaliser a minute later to force the final into extra time.
But Foresters held their nerve to win the game, though the winning goal will haunt Becky keeper Ollie Scottow.
He seemed to be in control when Dixon hit a 25-yard free kick but the ball bounced in front of Scottow and deflected into the goal off his chest.
The win was no more than Foresters deserved after they had dominated most of the game.
They took the game to Beaconsfield and nearly took the lead on 13 minutes when Scottow fumbled a cross but Danny Cole couldn't take advantage.
He made no mistake six minutes later though when he cut in from the left and slipped the ball past the keeper to score, with Beaconsfield players complaining Cole had handled the ball as he controlled it.
Foresters could have made it 2-0 before half time as Danny Stone, Cole and Paul Gardner all went close while Gardner should have scored on 62 minutes but he failed to connect with a cross from the right.
At the other end, Billy Gray hit a good shot that went over before the incident with the crowd occurred.
A minute after that, the sides were level when Adrian Smith took a tumble under the keeper's challenge and won a penalty.
Smith took the spot-kick and planted the ball into the net to give Becky the equaliser.
And Beaconsfield could have grabbed a winner with seven minutes left when they broke down the right, Smith put Alex Cairns in the clear but the substitute hit over with the goal at his mercy.
At the other end, Gardner had the chance to win it but dragged his shot wide when clean through but the miss of the game came in extra time when Stone beat the keeper to the ball and was presented with an empty net but he rolled it wide.
Stone missed again in the second period of extra time but his blushes were spared when Dixon struck to hand Foresters the cup.
Afterwards, skipper Gardner said: "I was wondering if it was going to be our day. We could have been three or four up after 90 minutes.
"This is my last game and it's a nice way to finish. We lost in the final last year and I wanted to get back here and win it this time."
