WANDERERS boss Gary Waddock refused to condemn Gareth Ainsworth after the Wycombe veteran was red-carded in today's 1-0 win over Millwall.

He says he will watch the incident again before making any further comment.

Ainsworth saw red within six minutes of coming on as a substitute for laying out Millwall defender Tony Craig as the pair clashed competing for a ball.

The incident sparked a 21-man brawl and afterwards Lions boss Kenny Jackett accused Ainsworth of making no attempt to go for the ball.

He said: “Three times he jumped at Tony.

“He jumped into the man as opposed to jumping for the ball.”

Earlier in the season Ainsworth broke the same player's cheekbone when he landed a boot in the defender's face as he attempted an overhead kick when the sides clashed in South London.

Jackett said: “Tony Craig has only just stopped wearing a mask after suffering a depressed and fractured cheekbone after the last incident.”

Waddock says he will review the incident on DVD before making further comment but he was quick to defend his player's character.

He said: “ He's not that type of player, he's honest, he's agressive but he's not one to throw an elbow but I will have to have a look on the DVD.

"He says he hasn't done anything and I will take his word for that."

Ainsworth declined to comment afterwards.

Millwall's Danny Schofield should also have been sent off for his violent reaction to the challenge on his team-mate but he received just a yellow card.

The incident also provoked trouble in the crowd with Millwall fans throwing cans and bottles onto the field.

Blues say they won't be contesting Ainsworth's dismissal and he is now expected to be banned for three matches.
