WYCOMBE Wanderers visited Bloomfield Road, Blackpool for their first away game of the 2003/04 season. For the first 40 minutes the blues looked superb then disaster struck.

Richard Harris troubled the home defence as early as the first minute with a great teasing run down Wycombe’s right only to be fouled by Mike Flynn.

Just seconds later a trademark long throw from Harris fell to Watford loanee Simon Patterson, but his lame shot failed to trouble Lee Jones in the Blackpool goal.

Then after 12 minutes Harris caused more problems but Jones cut out his low pass across goal.

The game was all Wycombe, Richard Harris was impressing and the ammunition provided by Jermaine Mcsporran and Darren Currie on the wings had been superb.

It was Currie’s super corner on 17 minutes that fell to Mark Rogers but his header shaved the top of the cross bar and Blackpool were let off the hook.

Minutes later Mcsporran frightened the home side with a stinging shot from 20 yards that was brilliantly saved by Jones.

On 24 minutes a curling free kick from Currie found Patterson’s head and more by luck than judgement the ball ended up in the back of the net.

The game slowly calmed down but Harris was still causing problems especially with his long throws. On the half-hour mark Currie beat two Blackpool players cut inside and his curling right footed shot gave Jones no chance and it was 2-0.

The inspirational Harris had to be substituted due to injury he was replaced by youngster Billy Harding. This changed the game and before Harding could get a touch Wycombe were struggling.

Thirty seconds from half time and Wycombe conceded not one sloppy goal but TWO both to Blackpool’s Taylor. The scores were level at half time.

The second half was a scary reminder of last season Billy Harding really struggled to get into the game and the sheer laziness of his strike partner Patterson was clearly frustrating Wycombe’s supporters.

On 61 minutes Kirk Hilton was given a generous amount of space by Wycombe defenders and his shot left Wycombe’s rookie keeper Steve Williams with no chance.

Luke oliver replaced Danny Senda with four minutes left and Wycombe changed the formation to 353.

With 30 seconds remaining Neil Danns was sent off after his second yellow card for delaying the restart of play, this made no difference to the game as Wycombe had left it too little too late despite a late show from makeshift forward Roger Johnson.
