Wycombe Wanderers will be without Josh Scowen ahead of this weekend's home clash against Leyton Orient.

The 31-year-old picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in Tuesday’s night 3-2 victory away at Burton Albion.

This means he will be suspended for one game.

Scowen’s omission from the squad for the upcoming clash versus Orient will no doubt be a big blow for the Chairboys, as he has started all of Wanderers’ 11 league matches so far this season.

However, manager Matt Bloomfield has reiterated that there is ‘healthy competition’ in Wycombe’s midfield.

Wanderers go into the fixture unbeaten in nine in the league, and have scored in every game so far this league season.

Their last blank was back in April against Derby County, with the fixture ending 0-0 at Adams Park.

The only game they failed to register a goal so far this campaign was in the 1-0 loss at Wimbledon in the EFL Trophy back in August.

Speaking to the press ahead of Saturday’s clash with Orient, he said: “I would rather be playing well than have selection headaches.

“It’s a lot nicer to have this problem rather than trying to find a team that can win a game.

“And if we want to be a decent team, we need to have that healthy competition for places.

“So it will be a tough decision to make as we have got plenty of names in the midfield.

“Luke [Leahy] has come back from his injury and has done fantastically well.

“He earned his spot on Tuesday night [against Burton], but he came off with a knock so we need to see how he is.

“Cam [Humphreys] missed out on Tuesday but has been brilliant since his move here [on loan from Ipswich Town], and Butch [Matt Butcher] has done brilliantly since we signed him in January [from Plymouth Argyle].

“He’s been excellent and I’m not sure you’ll find anyone else in the building as consistent as Butch.

“He’s been brilliant.

“Finally, Tyreeq [Bakinson], certainly against Aston Villa [in the League Cup], was terrific.
“He has shown good signs for us and we want to give him more minutes, as we rate him really highly.

“There will be decisions to make ahead of Saturday to see how we can freshen up.
Bloomfield also praised his side’s attitude and ‘energy’ for a lot of their successes this season.

At the time of writing, Wycombe are enjoying their longest unbeaten run in the division for two years, and sit within touching distance of the automatic places in League One.

He was also nominated for the September Manager of the Month award.

But he admitted that he doesn’t want his players to ‘get ahead of themselves' as ‘pride comes before a fall’, and that everything will be looked at ‘game-by-game’.

He concluded: “The boys are playing with energy and have a camaraderie as they are all celebrating each other.

“On Saturday [against Peterborough United] when Richard [Kone] got his hat-trick, Bez [Lubala] and Dan Udoh were some of the first to celebrate with him.

“We have got such a tight-knit group and the younger players are learning off the older players.
“They’re feeding off each other’s energy.”

The match this weekend against Leyton Orient will kick-off at 3pm.
