Wycombe Wanderers boss Matt Bloomfield believes Birmingham City will get promoted out of League One this season following the club’s 3-2 defeat to the Blues at Adams Park.

The Chairboys had taken the lead against Brum through a Krystian Bielik own goal, before strikes from Alfie May, Luke Harris and Willum Willumsson wrapped up the win for the visitors.

Sam Vokes did score a header in the final few minutes to give Wanderers some hope, but the day belonged to the side from the Midlands.

Speaking on the Blues, Bloomfield said: “It’s very disappointing to come out on the wrong end of two 3-2 defeats [following last week’s loss at Wrexham], but at the same time, I’m proud of the effort and the application the boys are putting in.

“We’ve had some very good moments and we have to build them.

“Birmingham City are going to get promoted this season.

“Absolutely - they remind me of what Ipswich did a couple of years ago.

“They’ve gone and recruited an incredible young coach, they’re spending millions and millions of pounds on the backroom staff, on the playing staff, on everything and there's no point spending all that money if you're not going to do it right.

“They're doing it right and properly.”

On the performance, Bloomfield added: “I was pleased with the resilience of the group.

“I was pleased with the effort, the application, and the structure we have as we pressed and created some really good opportunities.

“We scored two goals and could have had two or three more.

“I thought our pressure was good at times.

“We're going to have to spend some time in the block because you can't press for 90 or 100 minutes as it was today, [August 17].

“So it’s good that we are creating these opportunities against a team of Birmingham City’s calibre.”
