Here is what Matt Bloomfield had to say on Wycombe Wanderers’ 2-2 home draw against bottom-of-the-table Fleetwood Town.
The Cod Army raced into a two-goal lead thanks to strikes from Prince Omochere and Jayden Stockley before the former was sent-off for two yellow cards just before half-time.
The Chairboys then missed a penalty through Luke Leahy before Wycombe were given a second spot-kick, which was converted by Garath McCleary.
It was the Jamaican’s first goal at Adams Park this season, and his first in any capacity since September.
Young striker Richard Kone buried an equaliser in the last five minutes, but the result means it’s now one-win in 17 for the Chairboys in League One.
They currently sit 19th, four points clear of the relegation zone.
Bloomfield on the first and second-half performance
“We were very poor in the first-half.
“I’ll try and be as honest as I can as I think we’ve been pretty good recently, but we shot ourselves in the foot and the boys know that.
“I thought we looked anxious, and edgy and weren’t getting second balls.
“We improved in the second half as we showed a lot of character and even after we missed the penalty, the boys still found more to give.
“That shows the character of this group.
“Have been asked if the boys are showing fight and I think we saw that today.
“We showed desire in the second half.
“I told the guys at half-time that I’m not someone who criticises mistakes as I want you to be willing to try what we want to do.
“Recently, we’ve been using Sam [Vokes] correctly, we’ve been using the wingers correctly and in recent games, we looked like the guy in the ascendency.
“But there's no excuse for that first-half, as we know it wasn’t good enough.
“When we give away two goals, it’s always hard to get back and we need to make sure that the first half was a blip.”
Bloomfield on Richard Kone
“Richard is a young boy so we want to take that expectation off him as we think a lot of him, and we had to fight hard to get him.
“He’s such a clever player and I was willing to do that as I want to protect the club for what I believe will be a really good asset.
“Just to show the character he was brilliant, and on Tuesday, he was devastated after he missed his chance near the end.
“He wants to learn but we don’t want to give him too much as he’s best when he goes out at plays.
“And that finish was so instinctive."
Bloomfield on being in a relegation fight
“I’ve not been looking over our shoulders – I’ve been looking at the performances and trying to pick up as many positive results as possible.
“We’ve got to be aware of the situation that we’re in, but we can’t get too carried away.
“It is what it is and we know what we need to do going forward.
“We’re hoping to do a bit of business in the next couple of days and we believe we’ll get stronger.”
