Wycombe Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield has told the Free Press he ‘understands the fans’ frustration’ following a fourth league loss in a row.

The Chairboys have not been victorious in League One since defeating Fleetwood Town on October 7, in which they have been defeated five times in their last eight fixtures.

And following the 1-0 home defeat to Shrewsbury Town, which was the Shrews’ second consecutive league triumph over the Chairboys in as many seasons, many fans were seen leaving for the exit with roughly 10 minutes remaining.

Additionally, the attendance of 3,937 was the lowest for a league match at Adams Park since November 2017.

This was when Wanderers defeated Yeovil Town 2-1 in front of 3,834 spectators.

He said: “I understand that there will be criticism from the fans and rightly so because of the results.

“I’m in a results-based business so I get that but they are going against us at the moment.

“Barring the Morecambe performance when I told you guys how unhappy I was with it, we’ve played some very good stuff.

“I understand their frustration due to the run that we’re on.

“They pay money to watch us up and down the country to come here on cold winter days, and I’ve got a close bond with the fans that’s lasted 20 years.

“I share their pain and frustration and it’s a tough place to be as a manager when you’re not winning games.

“If I saw players throwing in the towel or being inept, I would be telling you [the press], that it wouldn’t be right.”

On changing the formation from a 4-2-3-1 to a 4-4-2 in the latter stages of the contest, he concluded: “Luke Leahy’s energy in midfield with Josh Scowen was the right thing to do but when we put the attacking players on, we decided to go 4-4-2 as we wanted to go wide and put balls in the box.”
