Ex-Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Lewis Wing has explained why he opted to celebrate against his former club in Reading’s away victory over the Chairboys.

The Royals defeated his one-time employers 2-1 at Adams Park which saw the 28-year-old score the winning goal on the stroke of half-time.

It was his third strike of the season, albeit via a huge deflection off centre back Ryan Tafazolli.

After scoring, Wing ran towards a section of Wanderers supporters showing his delight.

During his 18-month spell at Wycombe, he played 63 times and scored 11 goals.

This included bagging six in eight appearances across January and February this year.

He told the club’s website: “I thought I wasn’t going to celebrate today [November 25] if I scored but because they were giving me a bit of grief, I thought I would give it to them back, and I’m buzzing.

"I don’t care how it went in as long as it goes in, it got us the win at the end of the day, it was the first one in a while, so it was a nice one.

"I have forgotten the feeling of winning away from home.

“It was a good feeling and I feel like we deserved the win, and hopefully we can kick on now.

"I think in recent weeks we have been doing well in games but we just haven’t been able to see the goal out so doing it today was fantastic.

“We grinded it out.”

Wing was the latest Wycombe scorer of the Gareth Ainsworth era, and the final person to register a goal for Wanderers during the 2022/23 season.

That latter strike, which came in a 2-2 draw away at Portsmouth, won the club’s Goal of the Season award.
