Goals from Joe Low and Garath McCleary secured Wycombe Wanderers’ first away league win of the season as they defeated Bristol Rovers 2-1 at the Memorial Stadium.
The hosts began the better side as Scott Sinclair, Aaron Collins and Grant Ward tried their luck from range, but nothing really tested Max Stryjek in the Chairboys goal.
Jevani Brown hit the post whilst George Friend’s shot was blocked by Chris Forino.
The Pirates dominated possession but it was Wanderers who took the lead through one of the club’s 11 new signings.
Low, who bagged a brace on his league debut against Leyton Orient 11 days prior, headed in a Luke Leahy free-kick on 19 minutes.
It’s his third goal in as many league appearances.
The second period began with Wycombe in the ascendancy as they nearly doubled their lead through a Leahy volley that was brilliantly saved by Matt Cox.
Things then took a turn for the worst as Wanderers suffered two serious injuries in a matter of minutes.
First, Ryan Tafazolli hobbled off with a suspected knee injury before forward Dale Taylor left the game on a stretcher.
The latter went into a 50/50 with Rovers’ James Wilson and immediately stayed down holding the bottom of his leg, and the reaction from both sets of players indicated the seriousness of the injury.
He was replaced by Brandon Hanlan who played a part in Wycombe’s second, as his through ball found McCleary who chipped it over Cox.
Rovers pulled one back in the dying embers through Harvey Vale but Wycombe held on for their second league win of the season.
The victory also means this triumph is the Wanderers’ first on a Saturday afternoon since February.
Wycombe are up to 14th.
