Wycombe Wanderers defender Richard Keogh has insisted he’s ‘still got a few more games’ in him as he prepares to make his second debut for the club.

The 36-year-old is expected to start the Chairboys’ season opener against Exeter City on August 5, which will be the 600th start of his career.

After making his debut in 2004 for the Icelandic club Vikingur whilst on loan from Stoke City, he has gone on to represent 13 different sides, whilst also featuring for the Republic of Ireland.

He told the Free Press: “We’re ready to go.

“Pre-seasons are tough but needed so when we get to the nitty gritty, we all come alive.

“Everyone has performed well so far, and we’ve bought in some good players too so we’ve got a strong squad.

“They’ll be twists and turns without a doubt so we know we must be prepared, but everyone will contribute.

“And we’re looking forward to it as everyone at Wycombe knows the culture is to help one another.”

On potentially making his 600th career start on Saturday against Exeter, a side he has only played against once, he said: “I’ve still got a few more in me yet but I will contribute in any way I can.

“I was proud to play one game, let alone having 600 starts so I’ve been quite blessed to start a lot of games.

“But for Saturday, the first game is always the exciting one as a lot of preparation goes into it.

“We’ve had a proper week to prepare for the game, there is a real buzz around the place and everyone has been fantastic.

“We’ll be prepared for Exeter as they had a good season last season who are well coached.”
