Wycombe Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield has admitted that two of his players are not close to a return from injury.
Speaking after his side’s 0-0 draw against Cardiff City in Joe Jacobson’s testimonial on July 29, the 39-year-old confirmed that both Jason McCarthy and David Wheeler ‘are some way away’ from being selected.

A positive for Wanderers is that both Sam Vokes and Josh Scowen have returned from their respective injuries, as they both featured in the draw against the Bluebirds at Adams Park.
Speaking on the injuries, Bloomfield said: “It’s been a frustrating pre-season in terms of the numbers we’ve had out, but it was nice to see Josh and Sam back as they had only returned to training this week.
Had a great chat with new boy Freddie Potts, skipper Joe Jacobson and if course, the boss Matt Bloomfield.

“We’re trying to get some of the injured players up to speed as quickly as possible because even though today [July 29] was a friendly, we wanted it to be competitive in front of a home crowd.
“I also don’t want to be negative as there here will be bumps in the road for sure.
“Jason McCarthy and David Wheeler are some way away so they have had a bit of a frustrating pre-season.

“They are working as hard as they can but unfortunately, neither are close but we’ve welcomed back Josh and Sam.
“There are plenty of things to work on but I do feel as if we’re evolving and we’re moving forward as quickly as possible.”
