Then there were three.

We are now at the business end of the season and Wycombe Wanderers still have a chance of sneaking into the play-off spots.

As it stands, the Chairboys are four points and face Lincoln City this weekend.

And even though the Imps have got nothing to play, it won’t be an easy match at Adams Park.

So here is everything you need to know about Wycombe Wanderers vs Lincoln City.

Background on Lincoln and their current form

This is Lincoln’s fourth consecutive season in League One following their promotion back to the third tier in 2019.

It’s fair to say that their current tenure in the division has been mixed but importantly, they have been safe from a return back down to League Two in that time.

In 2019/20, they finished 16th after the EFL to curtail the campaign due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a year later they managed to earn a place in the play-offs and even got to the final, only to lose out to Blackpool in the Wembley showpiece.

And 12 months ago, they had a disappointing campaign finishing 17th, 12 points above the drop zone.

This season for the Imps has been somewhat vanilla, but they have shown they are a tough nut to crack and could be one of the sides to look out for in 2023/24.

They are the only side out of the 92 teams to draw more than 20 league matches this season, and incredibly nine of them have been 0-0.

Additionally, despite sitting 12th, they have only lost 10 league games all season with Charlton (15), Wycombe (15), Derby (11) and Peterborough (16), losing more, yet are higher than them in the table.

They also had one of the longest unbeaten league runs in the division with 10 games without defeat, but seven of them saw them share the points with the opposition.

Background on Wanderers and their current form

Wycombe are hoping to do something they have not yet done under Matt Bloomfield and that is to win back-to-back matches.

The 39-year-old celebrated his fourth win in charge of the Chairboys since taking over from Gareth Ainsworth on Tuesday evening, when they defeated a dogged Cambridge side 2-1 at the Abbey Stadium.

But he knows his team cannot rest on their laurels as the club, in reality, need at least seven points from the next nine available to stand any chance of securing a top six finish.

Away from the pitch, there was good news in the board room at Adams Park as Sam Vokes and Max Stryjek committed their futures to the club, and the fans will be hoping that two of the key players in this Wanderers team will propel them into a third play-off campaign in four years.
