Lewis Wing scored a nine-minute brace as Wycombe Wanderers defeated Derby County 3-2 to end the Rams’ 15-game unbeaten run in the league.

The Chairboys nearly took the lead inside the opening minute when Garath McCleary’s cross was headed wide by Sam Vokes, but the latter did not need to wait long until he got on the scoresheet.

On 11 minutes, Brandon Hanlan’s deflected shot found its way to the Welsh striker who smashed home his sixth of the season on the volley.

It was also his second in three games for the club.

The opening period belonged to the hosts as they allowed the Rams to boss the ball without facing any threats, and this absorbed pressure nearly led the hosts to get their second.

In the final few moments of the first-half, Joe Wildsmith was on hand to deny both Garath McCleary and Lewis Wing in quick succession, as Derby went into the break fortunate to only be one goal down.

Paul Warne’s side came out for the second period with vigour and aggression, but it was Wycombe that had the best chances.

Most notably, Hanlan produced a stunning volley from a tight angle that was once again denied by Wildsmith, before Jack Grimmer, Jason McCarthy, and David Wheeler all went close.

But these missed chances kept Derby in the contest and on 66 minutes, they got their equaliser through James Collins.

The striker tapped in from close range after being picked out by David McGoldrick for his 10th of the campaign.

However, Wanderers didn’t give in as Wing popped up with the winner in the final 15 minutes.

Jordon Obita’s shot corner went to McCleary, the Jamaican laid it off to the former Sheffield Wednesday man, and he fired home via a deflection on the edge of the box.

It was his sixth of the campaign.

His seventh came soon afterwards after being assisted by Tjay De Barr, before Lewis Dobbin got one back for the away team.
