The Chairboys barely got out of third gear against the South Coast team as goals from Anis Mehmeti and Garath McCleary gave Wycombe their eighth league win of the season.

From the first whistle, Wanderers dominated the ball, the aerial battles, and the 50-50s, whilst Pompey looked jaded, flat, and lacklustre.

The victory was only Wycombe’s third in the last seven games, with three points coming against a side that had only lost twice in the league all season, Ainsworth hopes that his players can be more consistent as we enter the final few weeks of 2022.
Speaking after the win, Ainsworth said: “Our performance was not a surprise to me as I know we have got that in us and I thought we could have had more goals.

“I thought the boys were outstanding as we worked on things during the week such as the pace of the front three, the pressing, and Anis Mehmeti caused so many problems to so many defenders and he was brilliant.
“We had Alfie and Taf at the back being the leaders which is what I was asking for as, we were solid and we soaked up the Portsmouth pressure.
“This allowed us to get the goals and I’m really proud of the boys and got what they deserved.
🗣️ "Hopefully we can get some shining through" 🌟

“You look at Man City and see what they do as consistency gets you results and trophies and I don’t want any rollercoaster performances.
